The foundation of any helping relationship is trust, so before I challenge anything you’re thinking or doing, I need to deeply understand where you are and why you’re there. I use active listening and validation to really get your perspective because you need to know that I’m on your side 100%. Once we build that foundation of mutual trust and respect, I will absolutely help you consider new perspectives and, keeping your unique goals and values in mind, guide you to approach things differently. But understanding comes first. Always.
I’m Bridget, and I first knew I wanted to become a therapist after seeing the impact that talking to someone outside my usual circle had on my own mental health struggles as a teenager and young adult. After college, I taught and did behavioral therapy with children on the autism spectrum, which was incredible work. During grad school, I found myself particularly drawn to courses on substance use, counseling children, and the modalities of CBT, DBT, and person-centered therapy. My internship gave me experience working with clients dealing with substance use issues, systemic barriers, and life transitions.
Now I’m excited to get back to working with children as well as adults. I especially enjoy working with people on the autism spectrum, those dealing with social anxiety, and anyone struggling with confidence issues. Creating a space where clients feel genuinely heard, seen, and supported matters deeply to me.
Clients tell me they appreciate that I “keep it real” and don’t hide behind excessive formality. Professionalism and boundaries are important, but so is letting you see that I’m a real human being sitting across from you. As your therapist, I’m not there to judge. I’m there to help you sort through everything going on in your life so you can work toward your goals. Therapy is collaborative, which means if something I suggest doesn’t feel right, you can tell me and we’ll adjust.
Outside of work, I’m a bit obsessed with trivia, so you’ll find me doing crosswords, watching Jeopardy, or going down random rabbit holes learning about different topics. I lift weights and run at the gym to stay centered, and I practice yoga and meditation to connect with my body.
If you’re hesitant about starting therapy, I want you to know that makes complete sense. It can be scary to trust a stranger with your feelings and experiences. But there’s something special that can happen in therapy when you find the right fit.
